Wish & Hope

”我希望你在這裡“ → "I hope you were here" 或者 "I hope you are here" ...哪翻對了？ 

...嗯，對啊！兩個都錯！

Wish = 希望，願望，但願， 祝願，心願。。。

Hope = 希望，盼望，期許， 企及。。。

那時要用"Wish"?

• 你希望＿＿會發生，但你已經知道是不可能。                  -  “I wish I could fly."
• 你心願有一天 ___。                      - "I wish I could go to the moon some day."
• 你講到以往。          -  "I wish I could have known my great-great grandfather."

那時要用"Hope"?

• 你希望的事應該會發生。   -  "I hope I will be able to go to her birthday party."
• 你盼望一件事會成真。     -  "I hope a cure for cancer will be found someday."

Examples

     [x] - I wish you have a good time.

     [✓] - I hope you have a good time.

          [✓] - We wish you were coming.

          [x] - We hope you were coming.

Expenses, Expensive...

Expenses, Expensive... 差在那裡？

*Expense(s) = 費用

Expensive = 很貴

”要是我們把費用增加了我們也一定要增加售價，然後我們產品將會太貴！“
"If we increase our expenses, we will have to increase our prices too and then our product will be too expensive."

Meet vs. See

[男生在路上見到他認識的人。跟那個人聊以後就說了 "Bye! Nice to meet you!“] .......講錯！

[商人在開會突然遇到以前的顧客。晚上寫了一個 email 跟顧客說 "It was nice to meet you again!"] .......也不對！

為什麼呢？
因為 "meet" 的意思是 ”認識“ 而且，當你第一次遇到某人才可以用這個字.

那，已經見過那個人的話可以說什麼？

"Nice to see you!"
"Nice to see you again."
"It was nice to see you again."
"It was nice seeing you again."
"It was a pleasure to see you again."
"It was good to meet up with you again." [<--- "meet up" 的意思是“遇到”]
"It was nice running into you again." [<--- 或 "to run into" = 突然碰到. 也可以用 "bumping into" 或 "to bump into"]
